Volunteers at Pueblo Animal Services

Volunteers are at the heart of making Pueblo Animal Services (PAS) a compassionate and caring organization. Their efforts and dedication help us accomplish our important mission. As a private, non-profit organization, we rely heavily on the assistance of our caring, dedicated and hard-working volunteers. PAS only asks a six-month commitment from its volunteers, but many of our devoted volunteers have been a part of PAS for several years. Our volunteers enjoy helping animals, people and their community.
There are numerous ways to aid at our shelter. Volunteers help with animal care through assisting with kennel maintenance, exercise, training, socialization and mental stimulation. They help pets find good homes, foster pets that need extra time or help, and assist people in finding their lost pets. They educate both children and adults about responsible pet ownership and kindness to animals.
Volunteers also assist at many special PAS community and fund-raising events, such as the Whisker Ball and Feet N Fur Festival. We have a volunteer Board of Directors as well, which sets shelter policy.
In an average year, our volunteers contribute more than 4,000 hours in support of the approximate 8,000 lost and unwanted animals that come through the shelter doors.
Volunteers work side-by-side with shelter staff, and provide needed manpower for those programs that improve the quality of life for shelter animals. They allow us to achieve excellence in all that we do for the animals, making the community a better place for both people and pets. Our volunteers’ commitment to us, in turn, enables us to fulfill the commitment we have made to the animals and people that we serve.
