Waldo Canyon Fire Volunteer Needs

Thank you so much for your interest in volunteering and offering to provide assistance to the evacuated animals. We have received an overwhelming response from the community and are so grateful. At this time, we are using our trained volunteers, as we do have a large, pre-existing volunteer base. However, we are also creating a back-up list of volunteers from the public in the event that we need additional help. If you'd like to be added to this list, please email Allison Bird abird@hsppr.org. If you are interested in fostering any evacuated animals, we are directing volunteers to Craigslist and asking them to post what they can take under the “Volunteer” section, thus allowing anyone in need of help to coordinate with a foster home directly.

The following is a list of places that are also accepting animals and may be in need of some additional volunteer help. Please feel free to contact them and find out what their needs are.

Monetary donations are our greatest need as we continue to care for evacuated pets. Most of the animals that came to our facility did not have vaccinations or personal belongings. Additionally, we have staff members working 12-hour days, so we need financial contributions to support our operations.

You may also consider making a donation to one or more of the following:

  • Care and Share is collecting items for the firefighters. They are in IMMEDIATE need of BRAND NEW SOCKS for firefighters. The firefighters also need new towels, juice boxes, socks, fruit cups, snacks. Care and Share also needs peanut butter & jelly, canned meat, energy bars and pasta & spaghetti sauce.

  • Wild Forever 719.475.WILD is in need of Purina Goats Milk Replacer mix. Several fawns were rescued from the fire area and are now with eight others at wildlife rehabilitation center.
  • The County Animal Response Team as they are in need of the following: 3x5 index cards, highlighters, pens and water bottles for small caged pets. These donations can be brought to the Cheyenne Mountain High School.
  • Teller County Animal Shelter needs pet food, bowls, kennels, and cash donations. Please call 719.686.7707 or TCRAScolorado.com if you can help.
  • Rocky Mountain Health Care Services is looking for dog and cat food and small crates.
  • The Penrose Equestrian Center is in need of horse feed and monetary donations.
  • All Breed Rescue and Training could use any of these donations: food and drink for our volunteer, saline solution for contacts, Visine, travel deodorant, travel tooth brushes and toothpaste, wet wipes, energy drinks, volunteers who can fill in shifts for walking the dogs, feeding the dogs and the cats, changing the cats litterboxes, etc., gallon sized ziplock bags, large container with lid to store the volunteer health and beauty items, coolers for the ice, flashlights and headlamps, gas cards, gift cards to grocery stores, Lowe's, Costco, etc., ice.
  • Black Forest Animal Sanctuary (719.494.0158) needs donations ASAP for horse feed and rescue efforts. They also need portable livestock panels, dog kennel panels and dog kennels.
  • Holy Apostles Catholic Church at 4925 N Carefree Cir. is in need of blankets, pillows, eggs, bacon, lunch meat, and chicken.
  • Non-perishable food and water donations can be taken to Care and Share, located on 2605 Preamble Point, from 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday. Walgreens has teamed up with Care and Share; all locations are now accepting donations during business hours. Non-perishable food and water donations can be taken to Care and Share, located on 2605 Preamble Point, from 7 a.m.- 6 p.m. Monday-Friday.

Thank you again so much for thinking of the evacuated pets during this time. Words cannot express the gratitude that we feel as we help animals in need during this difficult time for our community.

Please feel free to contact Allison Bird abird@hsppr.org or 719-302-8759 with any further questions.
