Youth Programs

To keep our community safe and halt the spread of the disease, we are suspending all youth education programs and events until these programs are safe to resume. Once we can reschedule these programs and events, you will be notified of the updated details.

Our mission to build a compassionate community where animals and people are cared for and valued extends beyond our day-to-day shelter operations. When we show children how to be responsible and compassionate, they are empowered to set a positive example.

Our wide variety of programs, from classroom presentations to tours to day camps, encourage respect for people, animals, and the environment, and recognize the interdependence of all living things. Animals and kids - we are better together!

Class Projects

Due to the large number of requests we receive and limited staff resources, we are unable to assist with school research papers, interviews, class projects or job shadowing. Statistics can be found online in our annual report at

Due to the nature of volunteering at a large animal shelter, we do have minimum age requirements and minimum time commitments. For more information about volunteering requirements, please visit

Better Together

Meet Sophia

Sophia is proof there’s no minimum age when it comes to helping pets in need. As a young donor and Camp Whiskers & Wags alum, Sophia is on a mission to make a difference for dogs, cats, and critters right here in our community. Pets and people – we’re better together. Thanks, Sophia, for helping spread the word!
