Community Cat Service

Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR)

Are there cats in your neighborhood? While HSPPR finds homes for thousands of homeless cats, some prefer living in outdoor colonies. You can help by becoming a community cat colony manager.

Through our Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program, we humanely reduce cat overpopulation in the cities of Colorado Springs and Pueblo as well as Pueblo County. Colony managers provide food, water, and monitor the cats’ health, while HSPPR offers spay/neuter services and vaccinations to keep the cats healthy.

We mark spayed/neutered cats by ear tipping them for easy identification. This ensures the cats are sterilized, preventing overpopulation and improving their lives.

Become a Colony Manager

Want to help? We’re seeking colony managers in areas approved for cat colonies – Colorado Springs, and the City and County of Pueblo. If you live in El Paso County outside Colorado Springs, contact our Community Cat Coordinator for more info. As a colony manager, you’ll take pride in caring for community cats and actively helping reduce overpopulation.

Colony managers provide food and water, monitor health, and track population. In return, HSPPR offers spay/neuter services, along with vaccinations for rabies and other illnesses to keep the colony healthy. Spaying and neutering helps prevent yowling, fighting, and spraying, and by returning sterilized cats to their territories, we stop the breeding cycle and prevent new cats from moving in.

Colony managers typically live in the same area as the colony and must:
