A Message From the President About Humane Society of the United States

Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region is not affiliated with Humane Society of the United States or any other national animal welfare group. We are a local, independent nonprofit dedicated to creating a compassionate community where animals and people are cared for and valued.

Dear Valued Supporters,

You may have seen the recent news regarding allegations of sexual harassment at Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) based in Washington, D.C. Seven members of the HSUS board of directors resigned after the majority of the HSUS board voted to allow the CEO, Wayne Pacell, to remain in his leadership position and close the investigation. Today, Pacelle resigned as CEO.

I want to be clear that Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region is not affiliated with Humane Society of the United States or any other national animal welfare group. We are a local, independent nonprofit dedicated to creating a compassionate community where animals and people are cared for and valued.

Here at Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region and Pueblo Animal Services, we are committed to treating animals and people with care and compassion. We do not tolerate harassment or discrimination of any nature. We believe active compassion can help us build a better world for all beings and that work starts right here at home, in Colorado Springs and Pueblo, by treating each other with integrity, respect and kindness.

We are grateful to you, our supporters, who make our work possible in the community.

Sincerely,
Jan McHugh-Smith, CAWA
President & CEO
