Meet Addy, a dog of the streets!
Hi! My name is Addy! For the first 2-3 years of my life, I was living on the streets without an owner and without a home. Every day, I had to learn to scavenge through garbage for food, find shelter from the storms, and sleep on cement. I was wary of humans, and the pellet in my leg shows that not all of them were very nice to me. Also, a lot of the dogs on my street liked to pick on me, which made me wary of other dogs. A few humans were nice to me, and they gave me food for the past year. Eventually, I let them pet me, and they gained my trust. Soon I was greeting them when they came home, sleeping in bed with them, and eating steady meals! Just 9 weeks ago, I was brought to the HSPPR since my foster humans were moving. They believed that I deserved a life with a real owner, since I was too sweet to live life struggling and alone on the streets. I worked hard and trained with the behavioral team every day since then, and I am now adoptable! Although I’ve made huge improvements, I’m not perfect, nor will I ever be. Due to my unique upbringing, I will need to find someone who is extremely patient and who will wait for me to gain their trust. Once I trust them, I will be the best dog! I will also need to go to a home with a fenced yard (since I’m used to running around freely), a home without small pets such as cats, chickens, hamsters, etc (as I had to have a high prey drive to survive), and I would be best in a mature home, as I struggle in unpredictable new situations. This doesn’t mean I won’t be an amazing pet, it just means I have to find the right home. Do you have what it takes to be my family and best friend?
