Thank you for your interest in doing one-time group volunteering at the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR). Each and every volunteer plays a vital role in our day-to-day operation! Please note that all volunteers must be at least 18 years of age. Volunteers ages 12 and up are permitted if escorted by a parent/guardian who is at least 21 years of age (no more than 2 youths per adult partner). Projects for school/youth groups may not be regularly available, depending on the needs of HSPPR.
How can my group help HSPPR?
Available shifts vary depending on the needs of HSPPR and your group’s availability. Also, the work the group is performing varies from janitorial, building, moving supplies, to maintenance. You will not be handling the animals. Animal handling requires specialized training reserved for individual regular volunteers. If you would like to work with the animals, we encourage you to come back and go through our training as a regular volunteer. Learn how to Become a Volunteer.
We post signups for Volunteer Information Sessions approximately every 6 weeks.Group volunteers are subjected to separation and may work with different departments as needed.
- Group volunteer work may range from cleaning, facility maintenance, lifting and moving, or special projects as HSPPR requires
- Each group will require a facilitator/ escort/coordinator (perhaps your contact person or a designated lead volunteer) to assist, sort, accompany, or coordinate the group and schedule with the Volunteer Programs Specialist
- Each group will provide a set number of expected volunteers, HSPPR cannot accommodate overly large groups (20+) and the HSPPR will require a minimum number of volunteers depending on the assigned task
- Group volunteers will be provided with needed supplies by HSPPR for assigned tasks. Volunteers may want to bring extra supplies (gloves, garden tools, etc.). Extra supplies are permitted, however HSPPR is not liable for lost and/or stolen items
How do we get started?
In order to get started, you will need to fill out a group volunteer request form below to volunteer once as a group. The Volunteer Programs Specialist will be in touch with you within 1-2 weeks of submitting your request. Projects will be assigned based on group’s availability and the needs of HSPPR. All groups must commit to bring a specific and predetermined number of volunteers. All individuals of a group will be required to sign a liability waiver and return it prior to volunteering.
Regular groups who can commit to a regular monthly basis may be permitted depending on the situation and availability. The one time or regular groups will need to complete an initial shelter tour and brief information session, prior to beginning a group volunteer shift. If you have further questions regarding group volunteer projects, please contact us, via email or call 719-302-8747.
