What are the official HSPPR sheltering locations?
If you live in Pueblo County and need temporary housing for your pet due to being evacuated from the fires, please come to 4600 Eagleridge Place in Pueblo.
If you are evacuating from Custer County, please utilize Lange Hall at 312 S. 3rd Street in Westcliffe.
How long will you hold stray animals?
If your pet went missing from an area near the fire, please check the lost pets currently located at our shelter and contact us as soon as possible if you are unable to retrieve your pet. We are holdingstray pets from this area.
What if I don't have anywhere to take my pet?
If you need temporary housing for your pet, please come to 4600 Eagleridge Place in Pueblo.
Where can I see lost animals?
What if I need to bring in my pet or a pet I found unrelated to the fires to HSPPR?
If you need to surrender your pet, if possible, please utilize another rehoming option here. If you found a pet and are able to keep the pet in your home, please do so and fill out a found report. We need to reserve our shelter space for pets in our community, so if you are brining a pet from out of jurisdiction, please utilize other rehoming options or visit another open admission shelter.
Can I foster pets displaced by the fire?
If you are a current HSPPR foster, please reference the most recent Foster Forecast emails. Because fosters are required by the State to do a home inspection before taking in a foster pet, we are unable to do one-off fostering situations. You may choose to offer your services through social media or other outlets. Visit the Aspen Fire Fosters and Pet Assistance Facebook group here.
Are you able to send Animal Law Enforcement into evacuation zones to rescue pets left in homes or on a property?
Yes, if it is deemed safe enough for our officers to respond. Please call dispatch at 719.302.8798. Pueblo CART is assisting with large animal rescue and HSPPR’s Animal Law Enforcement is responding to companion animals.
Can you send people to feed feral cats or animals in the field?
If we’re not responding to emergency calls, and we can safely access the area, we may be able to provide food and water.
What if I see an animal left behind in the evacuation area?
Please call ALE dispatch at 719.302.8798. If we can safely access the area, we will try to locate and pick up the pet.
