Get to know me

Zuma arrived at the shelter as a stray in late January, courtesy of a kind Good Samaritan. His early days were… let’s call them *emotionally loud*. Shelter life was overwhelming, and Zuma made it very clear he had big feelings about it, trying to bite anyone who attempted to handle him. Luckily, a patient, loving foster home stepped in—and wow, did this boy rise to the occasion.

In foster care, Zuma revealed himself as a goofy, affectionate, high-octane goober who’s ready to find his forever people. He LOVES other dogs of all sizes and would be thrilled to have a sturdy playmate for wrestling matches and high-speed chases. Cats? He’s learning they are roommates, not racetrack competitors, and he’s doing well with guidance.

Zuma is crate-trained, happily goes in on his own, and keeps things clean while crated. He does mark indoors (he’s honest about who he is), but belly bands handle that like a champ. He lives with a preschooler and does well, though when excitement levels spike, he can get a little mouthy—think overjoyed puppy enthusiasm. Ongoing training will help him keep his cool.

He rides great in the car, has energy for days, and is always ready for the next adventure. If you’re looking for an active, weird-looking, lovable, long-bodied mystery dog who will keep you laughing and moving, Zuma might just be your guy.

I’m currently in a loving foster home offsite! Please contact Zuma’s foster parents, Allison and Joshua, at waldvogel0724@gmail.com to inquire or set up a visit. Be sure to give Allison and Joshua 24 hours to respond.

Inquiries are answered in the order received, and the foster parent will let you know your place in line if there are other interested adopters.

A meet-and-greet is required before adoption. Adopters should be available to meet within 48 hours of inquiring; otherwise, preference may be given to the next person in line who can meet sooner.

For everyone’s safety, current pets are not able to meet the foster animal before adoption.

After the meet-and-greet, you will have 24 hours to visit the HSPPR Adoptions Lobby (11:00am–4:30pm) to complete paperwork and finalize the adoption.
